IndiaMission2007

Personal reflections of Barbara and Nancy in preparation for summer 2007.

Barbara’s Bread

I am still selling my sourdough bread and rolls.  The bread comes to you in whole wheat or regular white and you can choose a loaf, 10 rolls, or 10 cinnamon rolls.  I also make sweet potato bread, banana bread (no nuts), and raisin bread.  You may order the bread my responding in the comments area of this blog and I will deliver the bread to you. I have a city permit to sell my bread in various public vendor sites.  I have been caught delivering orders at my school, my church, neighbors and selling bread in craft fairs and farmers’ markets around El Paso. Thank you for  your support.

Yard Sale March 10

Nancy and I are collecting your miscellaneous items to put in our yard sale on March 10.  All proceeds from the yard sale will be used to offset the cost of the airline tickets to Bangalore, India which cost us each $2, 543 and we charged on credit cards.  If you have items for us you may bring them to church and we will pick them up.  Or you may call us and we will come to your home and pick them up.  Your response has been tremendously appreciated thus far.  You will want to come shop on that day also.  The yard sale will be at 11005 Essex Falls Lane which is NE. Zip code 79934 and you may call me if you need directions.  Among the items we will sell that day are:  2 sewing machines, quilting material, queen size water bed with drawers, lots of table and bed linens, clothes mostly Med. to X-large sizes, Christmas decorations including 2 trees, and much more.  Call the church office if you need more information: 915-533-1465.

The Journey Begins

In Feb. 2006,  after I had purchased my airline for summer mission trip #2 to Bangkok, Thailand,  I received an invitation from Dr. Rebekah Naylor to come to Bangalore Baptist Hospital (BBH) to help Dr. Benjamin with their 3 libraries.  It seems that numerous books had been purchased and donated for use by the medical students as well as in pastoral care; however, no one could catalog and process the books in a usuable fashion.  Dr. Naylor has retired from the hospital after 30 years and is heavily involved in recruiting all kinds of volunteers for BBH.

I told Dr. Naylor that if the request was still open for summer 2007 I would pray about accepting the invitation.  The invitation is still open and I am responding to the need for a librarian.  Nancy Williams is a librarian and a friend and she also has joined me.  So now we are IndiaMission2007 Team!  It will be really a blessing to have someone to share the burden with.

Bangalore Baptist Hospital at a Glance!

BBH is  Bangalore Baptist Hospital and is located at Bellary Road, Hebbal,
Bangalore 560024.  It is a 220-bed teaching hospital and is a unit of Christian Medical College, Vellore.  Its existence began in 1963 when Dr. and Mrs. Jasper McPhail were the first Southern Baptist medical missionaries appointed to the area.  The property for the hospital was purchased in Hebbal, which is located on the northern edge of Bangalore. In 1969, the Mr. John Wikmans and Mr. Richard Hellingers arrived. The architectural plans for the hospital building were completed, and construction began in 1971. Four other churches and some preaching points were established by this time.

On January 15, 1973, the ‘Bangalore Baptist Hospital’ was dedicated. From then on the number of missionaries assigned to the work began to increase as more staff were added to the hospital.
